About
Following my graduation from Parsons, I completed an internship in Berlin, Germany at waf.berlin. waf.berlin is an independent and owner-managed communication agency that has been around for over 44 years. The agency’s work includes brands and campaigns, corporate design and corporate communications, B2B and B2C, analog and digital.
Logo Creation
I created the logo for the event WassArena, which was hosted by DVGW (Deutscher Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches/German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water), the German association for gas and water. The logo was later used to create physical and digital collateral that was used at the WassArena event in April 2024.
WassArena is an event where experts and representatives from politics, science and civil society enter the ‘arena’ with figures, data, facts, ideas, and arguments about the future of our resources in a time of climate change.
“The effects of climate change are already visible. Extreme weather events such as heavy rain and droughts can also be felt in Germany. This, in turn, has consequences for natural water resources. In order to ensure a continuous supply of drinking water, the concept of water reuse, or "water reuse", is increasingly coming into focus. Some see it as a suitable solution, others are critical of it. With the first edition of the WassArena, we wanted to make the different positions visible and discuss them together with our guests.
Is water reuse a suitable solution to meet the challenges of climate change?
For what purposes can already used water be treated for recycling?
Can we use this to reduce the pressure on natural water resources?
What technological innovations are required for this to implement water reuse on a broader scale?”
Corporate Publishing
One of the major clients of waf.berlin is Bechtle. Bechtle is Germany's largest independent IT systems integrator. During my time at waf.berlin, I assisted in designing the identity for Bechtle’s 2023 annual report and a few spreads for their update reports.
The 2023 annual report for Bechtle was a very important one because it also celebrated the 40 year anniversary for the company. This was also the first year that the annual report was transitioned to being digital only. The idea for the cover and identity was to portray stability and strength, which I achieved through using a knot as the main design. My internship ended before the report was completely finished, so after I left the lead designer created a motif out of the cover I designed to be used on the chapter divider pages in the report, and as collateral in the end of year conferences. The design was also later used by the motion graphics designer to to create animations.
Cover + spreads for Bechtle update reports. Bechtle produces 3 update reports a year, and during my internship I assisted in 2 of them. The first was a special edition for the 40th anniversary of Bechtle, so the theme of the report was to explain Bechtle's story through the different eras of video games. To achieve this, we used MidJourney to create custom assets.
Below are a couple spreads I created for the other report I assisted in. The contents of the spread are an A-Z story of how Artificial Intelligence has a role in modern network architectures. I created the imagery in Midjourney for these spreads.
